Victoria has the second oldest Hydro Electric Plant in Newfoundland and Labrador. It opened in 1904 and is still operating today, housing an interesting Electrical Museum which includes the original Pelton Wheels that produced electricity for most of the area at the turn of the century. It is said that the first long distance telephone system in Newfoundland and Labrador was initiated from this site (unconfirmed) so that The United Towns Electric Company (the forerunner of NL Power) could communicate with other plants. A walk up the old Flume will give you an exhilarating shower on a hot day, from the many pin holes in the wooden structure.
